Shannon Els is an entrepreneur who was born in Johannesburg. It was the only time she was ever thinner than her mother. During childhood, pocket money was spent on books and sausages. Nothing has changed. She is a keen observer of how trauma, mental illness nd socio-economic factors impact lives. Writing is her way of throwing the bones and finding meaning. Having more than a nodding acquaintance with addiction and its underlying causes, she is a counsellor who develops and runs workshops for friends and relatives of substance abusers, as well as dysfunctional family systems. She sprouted two brave children. At 55, she is contemplating her first tattoo.
