Change Your Story: Exploring Memoir Writing, Family Constellations and Meditation (MUIZENBERG)
March 26 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pmR1100
We are all born into stories that were not of our own making. Thereafter we may have found ourselves in situations that are difficult to accept, even if we were complicit in some way. The stories we tell ourselves about our lives are sometimes inadequate or even damaging to ourselves, our relationships and all life on earth. Importantly, we need not perpetuate the harmful narratives that we have carried; indeed we have the power to create stories that offer new possibilities and greater joy.
Family Constellations is a powerful therapeutic process that seeks to reveal hidden familial or systemic dynamics impacting our current life experiences so that they may be better understood and integrated. The modality was developed over 50 years ago by German psychologist Bert Hellinger after he spent time as a missionary with the Zulu peoples of South Africa and learnt from their wisdoms and ceremonies, especially relating to ancestors and family healing.
Often a system may be out of balance due to historical trauma or energetic entanglements or exclusions which have not been healed or integrated. These may cause repetitive patterns that are then unconsciously lived out by other members of the system.
Revealing these dynamics – which may be trans-generational – in a safe and professionally facilitated process, offers pathways to understanding, acceptance and healing.
A typical constellation takes place in a workshop setting with a group of participants. Participants are invited to represent specific family members or aspects of our life and through the unfolding process, hidden dynamics and potentials that come to light can be honoured, released or amplified. In this way we can create positive shifts in our relationships, beliefs and choices.
